North Orange County ROP and Anaheim Union High School District celebrated the kickoff of the Drone Technology Program at Loara High School on November 10, 2022, led largely in part by Michael Holton, our Drone Technology Pathway instructor. During this ceremony, students and faculty acquainted district administrators, board members, and parents with the cutting-edge advancements of drone technology. The occasion featured captivating demonstrations showcasing students handling drones, emphasizing the program's commitment to cultivating skills and knowledge in this dynamic field.


Participants who enroll in this program cultivate a comprehensive knowledge of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) while progressing toward readiness to pass the FAA Remote Pilot Certification Exam, Part 107. Within the exam's competencies, students explore fundamental concepts, including basic geography, FAA regulations, UAS flight safety, object-oriented programming, and aerodynamics. Students will benefit from real-world experiences that include the construction, repair, programming, and piloting of UAS drones. Additionally, they will hone entrepreneurial skills in marketing and business, fostering expertise in the drone operations market. The demand for drone operation pilots is multiplying, especially in Orange and Los Angeles counties. This program will prepare our students to join a modern, evolving workforce with endless opportunities.

Careers In Drone Technology

Drones, once confined to outdoor recreational use, have now integrated into our everyday lives, transitioning from their initial association with pocket-sized toys to evolving into sophisticated devices that serve various purposes. Beyond their outdoor flight abilities, modern drones have advanced features such as spot-on obstacle avoidance, making them equally effective indoors.

In recent years, drone technology has advanced far beyond hobbyist activities. These unmanned aerial vehicles have become dependable tools in different industries, transforming the job market. While some traditional roles may be automated, the drone industry has provided new, innovative job opportunities.


Drones have been used for non-military purposes for 15 years and have since advanced their non-military applications. Drones have proven valuable assets in many industries, from capturing breathtaking aerial footage for filmmakers to aiding in SWAT operations. As society adjusts to this shift, the future workforce undergoes a lively transformation, with challenges and opportunities at hand.


Integrating drones into our everyday lives brings a shift to our current and future generations. We are in a position where creating new, innovative opportunities counterbalances the removal of specific jobs. As our society continues to learn the full capabilities of drone technology, it becomes evident that these devices are not just for hobbyists but are drivers for innovation in industries worldwide.


Real Estate: Capturing Aerial Imagery Elevates Home Listings. Through the lens of drone technology, potential buyers get a unique glimpse of not just the property but the entire neighborhood, including streets, parks, and more. This modern approach redefines the home-buying experience as a whole.

Construction: Integrating drone technology in construction saves companies much money. Through aerial photography, workers can detect problems before starting the job. Using drones is not only a cost-effective strategy but also a visionary approach. By utilizing this new technology, the crew can address safety concerns before breaking ground.

Film Production: Drone technology rapidly expands in the film industry, signifying a transformative era. Drones not only provide the ability to capture breathtaking scenes but also assist in filming from angles that were once seemingly impossible. Drone technology has opened up a new door of creative opportunities.

Public Safety: Drone technology brings a new perspective to many public safety avenues. Disaster relief, as well as wildlife preservation, utilizes drones daily. Drones play a pivotal role in firefighting, capable of detecting the speed and direction of a fire. Additionally, drones are being used in road safety to monitor and assess crashes, contributing to effective response tactics. Law enforcement is employing drone technology in situations ranging from contextual understanding to SWAT operations.

With our Drone Technology Pathway, our students can get into the industry early and become a part of the future of drone innovation.


James Leslie wrote an article on Part 107, giving us great insight into certification and the different career avenues for drone pilots. Leslie informed us, "As of the latest data, over 280,000 individuals in the United States have obtained the Federal Aviation Administration's Part 107 Certification, a pivotal standard for commercial drone operation. This certification reflects a growing interest and adherence to FAA Part 107 regulations, opening up numerous job opportunities in sectors such as real estate, agriculture, and film production where drone usage is increasingly prevalent."

NOCROP's Drone Technology pathway prepares students for the Part 107 certification. It guides them in the ever-evolving field knowledge of drone technology.

The vision for the Yearly Open House was rooted in introducing the Healthy Smiles Trailer to the Anaheim community and community service organization. Bringing the trailer to the Trident Education Center (now named the Career Training Center, located at Gilbert High School) was a collaborative effort between North Orange County ROP, Healthy Smiles, and Anaheim Union High School District. Through the work of these organizations in making this happen, 3,431 patients have received preventive and restorative serv



Partnering with 27 other organizations, community members were provided with various resources. From free dental and health screenings to necessary informational provisions, visitors were given multiple resources to aid in whatever next step they wanted (article).

 Vocational nursing programs are still vital to the healthcare workforce, producing competent, skilled workers who enhance patient care and assist the larger nursing team. The development of healthcare and the continuous need for qualified healthcare professionals at all levels of practice are reflected in the history of these programs. Also known as practical nursing, this healthcare career path focuses on providing primary nursing care to patients under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians. 


North Orange County ROP offers the 13-month Vocational Nurse Training Program (VNTP) that prepares students to become licensed vocational nurses. Their duties include essential hygiene assistance, vital sign monitoring, and preliminary nursing care. 

The graduation ceremony is a memorable event, filled with a sense of accomplishment and excitement for the future. Graduates, families, teachers, and administrators celebrate this significant achievement. Health Occupations Students of America is known by the acronym HOSA. It is an organization of international students to educate and motivate upcoming medical professionals. Now widely associated with ROP's Pink Army, the Cancer Walk has become a beloved annual event. Thousands of regular walkers came together for a cause close to their hearts at the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, October 22, 2023. This event has grown beyond just a fundraising walk; it symbolizes the rigorous will and support of cancer patients and their passionate loved ones.

What makes ROP's Pink Army genuinely remarkable is not just the sheer number of participants but the unity it manages to forge. With membership ranging from 11 to 35 individuals, the organization has mobilized many people to join the fight against cancer. Their cumulative efforts have translated into a substantial contribution to the cause, with over $24,000 raised in the fight against cancer. This annual Cancer Walk symbolizes unity and is a vital fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, providing essential support for ongoing research, patient care, and awareness programs.
