Thousands of regular walkers came together for a cause close to their hearts at the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, October 22, 2023. This event has grown beyond just a fundraising walk; it symbolizes the rigorous will and support of cancer patients and their passionate loved ones.

What makes ROP's Pink Army genuinely remarkable is not just the sheer number of participants but the unity it manages to forge. With membership ranging from 11 to 35 individuals, the organization has mobilized many people to join the fight against cancer. Their cumulative efforts have translated into a substantial contribution to the cause, with over $24,000 raised in the fight against cancer. This annual Cancer Walk symbolizes unity and is a vital fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, providing essential support for ongoing research, patient care, and awareness programs.

Melanie Maldonado experienced a significant life transition in the summer of 2023. She quickly interfered in a dire scenario, responding to a scream for assistance. A woman called out in terror for her choking child, and more and more people came, but the crowd did nothing. Thanks to the expertise of her committed teacher, Colleen Hanley of Anaheim High School, Melanie, who had completed CPR training through NOCROP's Medical Careers Pathway at Anaheim High School, could intervene without hesitation. 
NOCROP's Medical Careers Pathway prepares students for entry-level positions in the medical and health fields and for industry standards. Students gain knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, the regular functioning of bodily systems, advanced terminology, vital signs, safety, HIPAA, transmission-based precautions, body mechanics, and transportation responsibilities. 
CPR Training Benefits
Knowing how to conduct CPR might mean the difference between life and death in an emergency. High school students who complete CPR training will be able to save lives, participate actively in their communities, and grow into responsible adults. Students who receive CPR and first aid training also benefit from improved critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities. CPR is a practical, hands-on technique that requires trainees to solve challenges and use critical thinking to save lives. When numerous persons perform CPR on the same victim, it also demands cooperation and communication (Heart Stop CPR). 
How To Get Certified as a Student
Obtaining CPR certification online in California is quick and easy with a course you can study for and complete from your living room. You can earn CPR / AED / First Aid certification or renewal, and certification in Bloodborne Pathogens, Babysitting, and Infant CPR is also available. A certification obtained online can equip non-professionals with the abilities and information needed to save lives in an emergency. Several California school districts provide CPR instruction and graduation from many other states necessitates certification (CPR Certification Institute).
Introducing CPR Training as A Mandatory Part of the School Curriculum:
Introducing CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training as a mandatory part of the school curriculum is a crucial initiative that can save lives and empower students with life-saving skills. According to the National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS) and their 2020 study that tapped pediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrest data, it estimates that there are over 23,000 youth under 18 years old stricken annually in the U.S. Many schools require teachers and students to complete a CPR class by the end of graduation so that, when an SCA event happens, everyone is fully prepared, but not all (Parent Heart Watch).
