Careers with Children: Preschool Assistant 2

Plan, prepare, and play!

This course focuses on building upon the fundamentals of Careers with Children: Preschool Assistant 1.  More specific and complex comprehensive skills involving the role of the teacher assistant, early childhood education curriculum, and early childhood educational environments are included.  Under the direction and supervision of a qualified, certificated lab teacher, students model the role of childhood education curriculum activities.  Through mentoring, supervision, and leadership positions in the child development lab classroom, students will demonstrate professionalism, communication, collaboration, and essential problem solving sills that apply to the Early Childhood Education philosophy and terminology.

Second-year students may become eligible for articulation with local community colleges; and those who complete 95 hours of classroom instruction, and 150 hours of field experience, with grades A or B may qualify to be hired as preschool teachers if they:

  • Are currently enrolled for a minimum of six Early Childhood Education units at a community college (until 12 units are earned).
  • Are 18 years of age or older
