Professional Dance: Commercial

Commercial Dance explores advanced dance techniques with an emphasis on competition. Students will have the opportunity to complete at local, regional, and national dance competitions in commercial dance styles including jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop. While the emphasis of the class will be working as a team to learn choreography, perfect performance and attend competition, there will also be opportunities for solos, duets, trios, and smaller group pieces. Student will learn the importance of healthy competition for success in the dance industry.

    This course integrates the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards, which are aligned to the Common Core State Standards. Instruction reinforces core skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and mathematics. Course instruction emphasizes career ready behaviors in communication, ethics, interpersonal/team skills, critical thinking and problem solving, safety, technology, and employability skills.
