Photography: Traditional and Digital is a concentrator course that will introduce students to the field of film photography. Students learn black and white film developing, black and white negative printing, basic photographic presentation techniques, and darkroom/manual camera equipment identification and use. Through laboratory experiences in the darkroom students learn portraiture, commercial and fine art application of traditional photography. A major emphasis is placed on the fine arts aspect of photography though discussions and critiques of the photographs of great master photographers, as well as technical comparisons to student-produced work. Students at all levels will have the opportunity to not only use traditional manual cameras but digital cameras and software. This course combines elements of the introduction to digital photography course with traditional aspects of darkroom practices.
