Civic Learning Award of Excellence
Congratulations to Cypress High School for receiving the Civic Learning Award of Excellence! California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye presented the award to staff and students on April 2. Students in our Legal Practices Pathway also showcased their latest work to Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye, including mock trials, soapbox speeches, and debates.
HOSA: Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference
More than 300 Biotechnology and Patient Care Pathway students attended the annual HOSA: Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference in Sacramento on March 28 - 31. Students from Cypress, Esperanza, Katella, Magnolia, Savanna, Sonora, and Sunny Hills High Schools, Oxford Academy (junior high and high school students), high school students at Trident Education Center, and our adult programs participated in healthcare-related competitions that included Existing Medical Innovation, Extemporaneous Health Poster, Medical Math, and many more. Students were also recognized for their community service hours. Winners who qualify will head off to Orlando, Florida for the HOSA International Leadership Conference in June.
2019 Dog House Competition
Residential and Commercial Construction Pathway students at Brea Olinda High School participated in the annual Dog House Competition. The dog houses were on display during lunch while students and staff voted for their favorites. The following students received awards:

Association of California School Administrators Every Student Succeeding Breakfast
Patient Care Pathway student Kayla Breshears, senior at Magnolia High School, was honored with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Every Student Succeeding Award on March 8. Each year, ACSA recognizes students for overcoming the odds and achieving success. Congratulations, Kayla!
Sparking Joy Future Educator Pathway Summit
On March 18, 2019, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District hosted its first “Sparking Joy Future Educator Pathway Summit” for students enrolled in the Education Pathway at Esperanza and Valencia High Schools. The goal of the summit was to match the professional learning opportunities that PYLUSD teachers receive in benefit of students. Thank you PYLUSD for your partnership and support of career technical education!
Dancing With The Staff
Performing Arts Pathway students at Western High School held their annual Dancing With the Staff competition on March 22. The event was Broadway themed and each competing staff member danced to a musical number alongside two students. Patient Care Pathway Instructor Carolann Baldridge was one of nine competing teachers. The show also included past student performances, many of which have won awards, and group performances with Performing Arts Pathway Instructor Maile Leonard.
America's Got Talent
Production and Managerial Arts Pathway students at Buena Park High School attended a taping of NBC's America's Got Talent in Los Angeles on March 14. Students had the chance to see a behind-the-scenes look at the TV show and play the role of studio audience members.
Placentia Yorba Linda Art Association Juried Art Competition
Design, Visual, and Media Arts Pathway students at El Camino Real High School participated in the Placentia Yorba Linda Art Association Juried Art Competition. Their work was on display in Schools First Federal Credit Union in Placentia from March 13 - 27. The following students received awards:

Design/Build Competition
Residential and Commercial Construction Pathway students at Anaheim, Brea Olinda, Savanna, Valencia, and Western High School participated in the annual Design/Build Competition. Each team was given a two-day project that mimics the real-world pressures of inspections and deadlines while enforcing the values of safety, teamwork, and craftsmanship. Officials from national construction companies inspected the floor plans and structure designs. Brea Olinda High School placed 2nd out of 12 teams.
Yorba Days Community Faire and Car Show
The annual Yorba Days Community Faire and Car Show was on April 6 at the Yorba Linda Community Center. The event included local vendors, resources available to residents, and a classic car show. Education and Patient Care Pathway students at Esperanza High School provided demonstrations, while Food Service and Hospitality Pathway students at Yorba Linda High School sold cookies and treats made during class. The logo featured on t-shirts made for the event was created by Jessa Laboissonniere; a Design, Visual, and Media Arts Pathway student at El Dorado High School. Instructor Valerie Easton also received a surprise visit from Cody Haney, a past NOCROP Patient Care Pathway student. He currently works for the Orange County Fire Department.
