Melissa Lucatero (Human Resources Assistant) and Christina Campbell (Senior Administrative Assistant) have been named as 2018 Classified Employees of the Year. The two were surprised with the awards at our annual Jingle Mingle holiday celebration. Congratulations and thank you for all the hard work that you do!
The 12th Annual Science of Gingerbread Competition
Congratulations to the Food Service and Hospitality Pathway students and instructor Mario Schwarz-Cole at La Habra High School for winning Best Holiday Theme at The 12th Annual Science of Gingerbread competition! Their Polar Express themed creation was titled "Polar Express Lift Off." Over 200 entries were submitted to the annual contest held by the Discovery Cube museum. View the winning gingerbread entries on display now until December 31st.
The 3rd Annual Nutcracker - "All The Holiday Feels"
The Performing Arts Pathway students at Western High School performed their annual production of The Nutcracker on December 7 and 8, 2017. This contemporary version of the classic Christmas ballet featured an original script, hand-made costumes, props, marketing materials, and decorations created as a collaborative effort by all five classes led by instructor Maile Leonard. Thank you to the Residential and Commercial Construction Pathway students and instructor Jorge Castro at Western High School for assisting with creating the set as well.
Fullerton Arboretum Kiosk Dedication
The Residential and Commercial Construction Pathway students at Brea Olinda High School have created a welcome kiosk for the local Fullerton Arboretum. The building features windows, two doors, lights, wifi, wheels, and was designed with the other buildings at the arboretum in mind. The kiosk will be used to comfortably house volunteers that greet visitors to the arboretum. A big thank you to the Fullerton Arboretum for providing this opportunity to our students!
Vocational Nursing Graduation Ceremony

Exploring Medical Careers at Orangeview Junior High School
Did you know students in our Patient Care Pathway can start as early as 6th - 8th grade? The Exploring Medical Careers students at Orangeview Junior High School recently finished a unit on body systems. Students created tri-fold boards with information and diagrams and presented them to their class. Thank you to Julie Chavez from West Anaheim Medical Center for providing a human brain to show to the students!
2017 NASA Innovation Challenge

The Engineering Design Pathway students at Oxford Academy competed in the annual NASA Innovation Challenge on December 1, 2017 after receiving 3rd place in the play-offs. This year's "Wiffle Ball Loft Contest" required competitors to create a device to launch up to 10 wiffle balls into a plastic tub located 19 feet, 8 inches (6 meters) away within a one-minute time allotment. Oxford Academy came in 7th out of 28 teams. The competition was held at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
The SEMA Show
Systems Diagnostics, Service, and Repair Pathway students at Loara High School and Katella High School traveled to Las Vegas to compete in The SEMA Show. Each team of students was given an engine to disassemble and reassemble as quickly as possible without help from their instructors. Katella High School placed 20th with a time of 27 minutes, 35 seconds and Loara High School placed 35th with a time of 32 minutes, 44.3 seconds. A total of 45 teams participated in the competition.

Western High School Career Fair
Western High School hosted a career fair on December 7, 2017. The fair highlighted our Patient Care, Performing Arts, Education, Residential and Commercial Construction, and Food Service and Hospitality Pathways. Students and instructors from each pathway had a chance to demonstrate class activities and show other students how enrolling in ROP classes leads to a successful career.
Exposed: Fresh Perspectives Art Contest
Graphic Design Pathway students at El Camino Real High School participated in the Exposed: Fresh Perspectives Art Contest held by the Yorba Linda Public Library. The gallery of work was featured at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. The following students received awards for their work: Honorable Mentions - Jordan Dahr, "Sitting Back While the Fire Burns" and Christopher Lopez, "Surf's Up" 3rd Place - Bailey Bible, "Fresh Perspective" 2nd Place - William Alfaro, "Staying Above Water" 1st Place and People's Choice Award - Sydney Ogden, "Free to Fly"
Pumpkin Launch Competition
The Engineering Design Pathway students at Anaheim and Sunny Hills High Schools participated in the Discovery Cube Pumpkin Launching Competition at California State University, Fullerton. The students designed and created trebuchet machines that launch pumpkins towards targets placed on a field. View a demonstration by watching the video above.
Cultivating Teacher Leaders High School Student Leadership Celebration
Congratulations to our Education Pathway students at Troy High School for receiving scholarships for their work with Raymond Elementary School! Cultivating Teacher Leaders, a program designed to diversify and encourage the teaching profession in California, held their High School Student Leadership Celebration at the North Orange County ROP Conference Center on December 12, 2017.
