North Orange County ROP instructor Amy Jensen was honored as a nominee at the Orange County Department of Education Teachers of the Year Ceremony on October 24, 2017. Amy teaches Principles of Teaching and Learning and Child Development at Troy High School. She is an Education Pathway Instructor that equips high school students with the knowledge and hands-on experience to become successful teachers. Congratulations, Amy!

Anaheim Youth Commission

Congratulations to Savanna Medical Careers Academy students Jessica Gomez, Gisselle Mascareno, and Erika Padilla for being appointed to the Anaheim Youth Commission! Each member on the commission was picked by Councilwoman Diane Barnes. The commission acts as an advisory body to the Anaheim City Council on the needs, assessments, priorities and interests of the local children and youth.

Katella High School Student Planner

Digital Design & Illustration students at Katella High School submitted entries to be featured on the cover of the 2017 - 2018 student planner. Student submissions were narrowed down to six finalists, one from each Digital Design & Illustration class taught by instructor Sean Manning. The winning design was created by Atib Abdullah. He was a senior last year and had been working with Adobe programs for one year. His design was inspired by artist MC Escher and he used multiple principles of design including symmetry, balance, and contrast.

On October 5, 2017, members of Skills USA and HOSA-Future Health Professionals gathered at the North Orange County ROP Conference Center to complete officer training for presidents, vice-presidents, secretaries, treasurers, parliamentarians, and historians. Seventy-four students and 18 advisors across 11 high schools participated in the training. The students were also able to network amongst each other and grab dinner during the event.


Exploring Computer Science at Brea Junior High School

The Exploring Computer Science students at Brea Junior High School got their first taste of computer programming by creating presentations on Hurricane Irma using Scratch, a free resource provided by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  The program allowed the students to simulate the path of the hurricane, control the speed of the moving aspects within the presentation, add photos, and provide narration. Students used the classroom set of Google Chromebooks to work on the projects and presented using a ViewSonic touch screen monitor. Click above to watch a presentation.

Students at Oxford Academy hosted Future Health Professionals Week from October 20 - 27. The theme, "Create Your Future," emphasized the HOSA core values of learn, lead, serve, and innovate. The events included a blood drive, career fair, an art contest, student demonstrations, and a presentation by Dr. Gustavo Loera. The week also emphasized the importance of mental health and how to reduce the stigma around it.

Anaheim Union High School District held its annual College and Career Fair at the Anaheim Convention Center on October 24. Our high school and fee-based instructors represented many industry sectors at the fair such as Arts, Media, and Entertainment; Engineering and Architecture, Health Science and Medical Technology; Hospitality, Tourisim, and Recreation; and Transportation. Students and parents from all over Orange County were able to take a glimpse into the courses we offer and learn how they lead to a successful future. Thank you to all our instructors and students for helping people learn more about Career Technical Education! 


REBELution at Savanna High School

Savanna High School hosted REBELution, an event designed to help students prepare for life after high school. North Orange County ROP industry partner Cal/Amp gave a presentation on things to keep in mind when applying to jobs, best job interview practices, and how to successfully present yourself in-person and online. Thank you Cal/Amp for helping students become college and career ready!
