Celebrating Career and Technical Education Month

CTEmonth

Career and Technical Education Month® (CTE Month) is a public awareness campaign led by the national Association for Career and Technical Education. The event takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country. Read below to see how North Orange County ROP celebrated CTE Month.

Students participating in Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) showcased their latest work during the February Board meeting. Students from the following organizations/schools were present:
Skills USA chapters at Anaheim, Buena Park, La Habra, Sunny Hills, and Yorba Linda High Schools
Educators Rising chapters at Esperanza and Troy High Schools
HOSA: Future Health Professionals chapters at Oxford Academy, Esperanza and Savanna High Schools

North Orange County ROP held its annual Spring In-Service on February 3. Instructors donned their finest luau attire and gathered for a fun day of staff development. The event also included surprising the 2018 Employees of the Year with their award. Thank you to our Teachers on Special Assignment, Amy Jensen and Lupe Rodriguez, and Sr. Administrative Assistant Christina Campbell for planning the event; and Michael Le (Coordinator, Technology and Facilities), Kirsten Robinson, Rahul Gupta, and instructors Jennifer Prado and Reid Petersen for providing breakout session presentations.


Building Industry Technology Academy at La Habra High School

Students at Rancho Starbuck Intermediate School took a field trip to La Habra High School to learn about the Residential and Commercial Construction Pathway. After instructor John Costa explained safety procedures, students formed groups and made longboards. 


OCADA High School Automotive Technology Competition

Systems Diagnostics, Service, and Repair Pathway students at Buena Park and La Habra High Schools participated in the annual Orange County Automobile Dealers Association (OCADA) High School Automotive Technology Competition at Kia America Headquarters in Irvine. Each pair of students had one hour to find 25 "bugs" (issues that needed repairs) within their given car. Buena Park High School received 4th Place and La Habra High School received 2nd Place. A total of six teams/high schools participated, and all 12 participants received a $1,500 scholarship to use at one of Orange County’s eligible Community Colleges for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 terms. Thank you to Rennick Subaru and Miller Toyota for sponsoring our students!

La Habra State of the Community 2018

Food Service and Hospitality Pathway students at La Habra High School catered the La Habra State of the Community Address luncheon hosted by the La Habra Chamber of Commerce. The sold-out event had over 200 attendees and included a presentation by La Habra Mayor Tim Shaw.

Students at Savanna High School visited Brookhurst Junior High School to demonstrate what career technical education is all about through hands-on, interactive presentations. North Orange County ROP offers four pathways at Savanna High School (pictured clockwise starting from top left): Systems Diagnostics, Service, and Repair; Food Service and Hospitality, Residential and Commercial Construction, and Patient Care.

Design, Visual, and Media Arts Pathway students at El Camino High School participated in the annual Placentia-Yorba Linda High School Art Competition held by the Placentia-Yorba Linda Art Association. The following students received awards for their work:
